Treating Asymptomatic Obstructive Sleep Apnea

Hypertension can be caused by Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) and is deemed a “silent killer” because people often do not show any symptoms. Sleep apnea may also be considered a “silent killer” because of the link to cardiovascular disease and because so many people with OSA do not have the typical symptoms. Because OSA can be asymptomatic, many patients will delay treatment or not seek treatment at all. The consequences of delayed treatment or lack of treatment could be high blood pressure, heart disease, heart attack, and death. One would not delay treatment of cancer because of lack of symptoms and with that same logic one should not delay treating OSA if asymptomatic.
